Food Security = ability to feed ourselves
UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Check back soon for information about a dedicated group of people who are working to ensure that Lake County has the knowledge,  resources and a coordinated plan to feed its people in time of crisis, such as earthquake, flood, fire or other catastrophe that could cut us off from the outside world for however long.

Think about it:

There are only two major truck routes used to import food to local grocery stores, and they are both called Highway 20 (from the east, and from the west).  If natural or other disaster were to disrupt that slender asphalt thread, and if the same disaster impacted other parts of California, restoring transport to Lake County will not be high on the state's to-do list.  Even a tiny bridge is impassable for autos when it collapses, and there are hundreds of bridges, large and small, along both the eastern and western route (and Highways 29 and 175 are already too challenging for large-truck traffic).

So, with Highway 20's infrastructure damaged, we will be on our own, for who knows how long?  Based upon similar situations occurring elsewhere in the recent past, you can expect the grocery store shelves here to be empty within hours of the disaster, as everyone will rush to grab what they can.

Then... what?  As days and (most likely) weeks go by...?

Fortunately for all of us, people here are already thinking and planning ahead.

More details coming soon.
